The shed where I keep my vegetables and fruit has a charming old wooden door with little cracks and gaps. This has now been discovered by little rodents, who find the cracks and gaps leave them enough space to enter and feast on my fruit and veg. Yesterday four apples, two pears and one potato lay half-eaten on the floor. The courgette was obviously not to their taste. Something had to be done immediately.
I put the fruit and vegetables in airtight plastic boxes. But did you know that if you take a nail and heat it over a flame you can just push it through plastic? The plastic melts like butter and you have a little hole for ventilation.
Isn't that a handy thing to know? A friend of mine knew this and told me. I just wonder how she knew.
