To cast pearls before swine

The Oxford dictionary gives the following
explanation:
"Offer valuable things to people who do
not appreciate them."

To which you can add: or simply cannot appreciate them,
for all kind of different reasons.
The proverb can also be found in the Bible,
Matthew 7:6 were it says:
"Do not throw your pearls before swine
that they may never trample them under their feet
and then turn and tear you to pieces."

Here the pearls refer not only to material things but also to knowledge, wisdom and good advice.
Unfortunately, the proverb holds a great truth, which in even clearer language is also mentioned in 'The Teachings of Silvanus'
(The Nag Hammadi Library).
Only a fool is wont to his destruction
but a wise man knows his way.
And a foolish man does not guard against speaking a secret or mystery
a wise man however, does not blurt out every word
he will watch his audience.

Beside that a wise man knows:
No prophet is accepted in his own village.
No physician heals those who know him.
