Closed Doors

When one door closes, another one opens;
but we so often look so long and regretful upon the
closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.

(Alexander Graham Bell)

The alarm bells rang
and with a bang
the door closed.
Wasn't this what I had feared the most?

Left in the dark
with four walls surrounding me
looking for somebody to rescue me
I thought I heard the singing of a lark.

Society had come along
and sang her tempting song.
I knocked
on all her doors
but a great force
kept them firmly locked.

So I started to explore
a land where not many people live anymore
and soon discovered a door
which I had never seen before.

I knocked
and the door unlocked.

I felt the warm glow
of a bright white light.
A great force whispered Hello
and everything was all-right.
